AIG Insurance Company of Canada - General Counsel
Mary Laurin is licensed in Ontario, Canada and joined AIG in 2014. She advises AIG’s business leaders on a wide array of matters impacting AIG’s Canadian commercial and personal insurance business lines, including distribution arrangements, governance, oversight and risk management, distributor and adjuster licensing, insurance operations, legislative interpretation, government relations, insurance regulatory examinations and audits. Mary also utilizes her extensive legal experience and over two decades of service in the insurance industry to support on-going business development and expansion initiatives. A consummate corporate counsel, she began her career in Corporate and Information Technology Law at Manulife Financial Corporation.
Mary finds that working in-house and being dedicated to one company fills each day with an exciting variety of legal problem-solving opportunities and the chance to build deep, long-lasting relationships with internal clients. Being a lawyer for the Canadian offices of a global insurer also allows her to interact with colleagues around the world and act as a legal ambassador for Canada, providing Canadian-specific advice when collaborating with legal colleagues on various multi-jurisdictional insurance initiatives. She has found it rewarding to witness the transformation and growth of AIG since joining the company eight years ago.
Mary also enjoys volunteering as an Ambassador for the Insurance Institute, where she has the opportunity to speak to local high school students about the many and varied future career opportunities available in the insurance industry.
