Rfrancis Law - Aboriginal Law
Rosalie Francis is a citizen of the Mi’kmaq Nation and a member of the Sipekne’katik Mi’kmaq Community. Rosalie is a staunch advocate in Indigenous rights and Indigenous self- determination and has spent most of her professional career pursuing the recognition of such. She has extensive experience working with the Mi’kmaq communities in the Atlantic region and has worked closely with Mi’kmaq leadership for many years, providing advice and support in governance development, the duty to consult, and Aboriginal Rights.
Rosalie currently operates a solo
law practice – RFrancis Law- and has developed a solid practice specializing in Aboriginal law and serving Indigenous clients. Her area of practice includes Aboriginal and Treaty Rights, with a strong background on the duty to consult, Crown engagement, governance development, environmental law, specific land claims, international law and employment law.
Rosalie’s recent practice saw her extensively involved in negotiations with Canada on the Mi’kmaq’s exercise of their livelihood Treaty right to fish. In 2021, she also spearheaded a human rights complaint to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, (“CERD”) regarding Canada’s human rights violations against Mi’kmaq Indigenous people in the exercise of their Aboriginal and Treaty rights
