Julie Reby Waas is Assistant Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Baptist Health South Florida, South Florida's largest faith-based, not-for-profit healthcare organization. With more than 27,000 employees, Baptist Health is a network of 11 hospitals, specialty institutes including the Miami Cancer Institute, and outpatient diagnostic and surgical facilities, spanning four counties.
Ms. Waas has been in her position at Baptist Health South Florida for over 17 years. As the only in-house labor and employment lawyer at Baptist Health South Florida, she provides legal support to Baptist Health's Human Resources Department and Baptist Health leadership regarding issues involving workplace law. Her practice includes advice and counsel on issues regarding workplace law, training for Human Resources and Leadership on topics including remaining union free, conducting internal investigations, and Americans with Disabilities Act compliance. In addition, she manages all outside employment litigation.
Prior to joining Baptist Health South Florida, Ms. Waas was a partner at Jackson Lewis, P.C. where she practiced exclusively in the area of labor and employment law, regularly litigated matters on behalf of the firm's clients, and counseled clients on a variety of labor and employment law matters as well as matters involving accessibility of public accommodations to individuals with disabilities and conducted training.
A member of the Florida Bar since 1986, Ms. Waas earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983 from Bryn Mawr College and her law degree in 1986 from the University of Miami School of Law.
In addition to being a lawyer, Ms. Waas is a self-taught professional abstract artist (https://www.intuitiveabstractart.com). She has been exhibiting her work since 2021 online, in galleries and exhibitions in the United Kingdom, London, Madrid, Innsbruck, Marbella, New York and Miami. Her work has been published in several art books and magazines, and she has won numerous awards for her artwork.
